Going green can save firms money

Businesses that make regular use of the NetRegs website, which offers advice on environmental issues, are saving as much as £58 million a year between them, the government has claimed.

NetRegs provides guidance on how best to run an environment-friendly business and to comply with environmental laws affecting firms.

A survey commissioned by NetRegs suggested that firms which use the site at least once a week save up to £5,000 a year in costs.

The savings come as a result of help on how to handle waste more efficiently and how to cut energy costs, as well as guidance on legal obligations.

John Holbrow, environment chairman at the Federation of Small Businesses, said: “Environmental awareness should be a top priority for small businesses to help them not only to save costs but also to improve their competitive edge.

“The NetRegs website is an extremely useful resource that provides easy-to-digest information on environmental law that is not only comprehensive, but uniquely relevant to small business needs.”

The NetRegs site can be found at http://www.netregs.gov.uk/
